National Service Scheme
NSS is an Indian Government sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. The motto of NSS is NOT me but YOU.
It aims at developing student’s personality through community service.
Activities
- The National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme and Department of Physical Education of Sree Narayana Guru College Jointly organized FIT INDIA FREEDEOM RUN 20.0 on 29.09.2021. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal, inaugurated the programme.. Lt.R.Jeyaprakash, introduced the importance of the Programme. He said, “Fit India Movement is a nation-wide movement in India to encourage people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives. Fit India Movement was launched by the Third Citizen of India on 29 August 2019”.
- The Vice Chancellor of Bharathiar University give away the Certificate and Gold Medal to Ms.Athira A, NSS Volunteer of Sree Narayana Guru College, who has commendably participated in the NSS Republic Day Parade Camp, New Delhi from 01.01.2021 to 31.01.2021, on the occasion of NSS Day Celebration on 24.09.2021.
- Interdependental Essay Wtiting Competition jointly organized by the Department of Social Work and Department of Social Work of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore.
- The National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College organized NSS Day Celebration on 24.09.2021. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal, presided over the programme. Mr.C.P,M,Yugeasraj, NSS Programme Officer, Sri Ramalinga Sowdambigai College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore, was the Chief Guest and delivered a talk on, “Role of NSS Volunteers in Nation Building”. In his address, the resource person highlighted the roles and responsibilities of NSS Volunteers in Nation Building during their Higher Education.
- In Connection with the Birth Anniversary of Tamilnadu Social Reformer Shri.E.V.Ramasamy, the Department of Social Work and National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College Jointly observed the Social Justice Day by way of organizing an Oath Taking Ceremony on 17.09.2021.
- The NSS Volunteers Sneha, Anjana and Premraj of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, have been recognised for their Voluntary Services in Beat Covid Campaign during the Pandemic, June 2021, Initiated by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Hyderabad.
- In connection with the International Yoga Day, the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Department of Social Work and National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College jointly organized a State Level Webinar on, “Maintain the beauty of our soul and body by learning Yoga” on 21.06.2021. Dr.N.Rathika, Assistant Medical Officer and Lecturer, Govt. Yoga and Naturopathy College and Hospital, Chennai was invited as a Resource Person. The Chief Guest delivered a wonderful presentation on how to maintain the beauty of our soul and body by learning Yoga. She also gave a lot of tips to the participants on how to do yoga and when to do yoga. Who can do Yoga and who should avoid Yoga were discussed during the webinar.
- In connection with World Environment Day, the Department of Social Work, Sree Narayana Guru Youth Club and National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore jointly organized State Level Webinar on, “Ecosystem Restoration” on 05.06.2021. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal, presided over the programme. Mr. Blesso J Yesudian, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Social Work, Vidhyasagar College of Arts and Science, Udumalpet was invited as a Resource Person. In his address, the Resource Person said, “Become aware of your natural resources, watch the birds and love them, know about the nature and enjoy with it, have concern towards environment and protect them with your heart”.
- The Department of Computer Applications & IT and National Service Scheme of our college jointly organized a *Pledge taking Ceremony* in view of the *General Assembly Elections 2021* on 27.03.2021. Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan, NSS Programme Officer, paved way for the college students to take pledge on 100% Voting. The pledge emphasizes that every person must vote fearlessly and make use of their democratic right during the upcoming General Election 2021.
- Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Department of Social Work and National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College Jointly organized an Extention Activity on, “Election 2021” on 21.03.2021, Sunday in Palakkad District, Kerala. Dr.M.Ilangovan, presided over the programme. Dr.I.Maria Yesuraja, Professor and Head cum UBA Coordinator, felicitated the Awareness Campaign. The MSW Students and NSS Volunteers created awareness to the public about the General Election 2021 by interacting and distributing the pamphlets. The Students covered the following public places in Palakkad District. Municipal Bus Stand, Kalmadapam, Town Bus Stand and Kenathuparambu.

The Students covered K.G.Chavadi, Ettimadai, Thirumalayampalayam and Pichanur Villages. Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan, NSS Programme Officer, coordinated the programme.
- The Equal Opportunity Cell & Scholarship Committee and National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College jointly organized one day National Level Webinar on, “National Scholarship Schemes in Higher Education” on 07.12.2020, Monday at 02.00 p.m. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal, presided over the programme. Ms. D. Antonette Lydia, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, was invited as the Resource Person. She addressed about the different types of National Level Scholarship Schemes in Higher Education. She also helped the fresh graduates about how to get benefitted through the Scholarship Schemes with live practical session.
- In connection with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, the Department of Social Work and National Service Scheme jointly organized a National Level Webinar on, ” Re-reading the Constitution with perspective of RPWD” on 03.12.2020 through Google Meet. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal, presided over the programme. Smt.S.M.Abinaya, Sr.Advocate (Madras High Court), CSR Senior Consultant, National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai, acted as a Resource Person and delivered a talk on, “Re-reading the Constitution with perspective of RPWD”.
- The National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College organized a Webinar on, “Awareness on COVID-19 – NSS Fights Against Corona” on 28.05.2020. The Resource Person was Mr.Prahadeeshwaran, NSS Programme Officer, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore.
- National Service Scheme organized Social Media Awareness Campaign on, Janata Curfew 22.03.2020.
- The National Service Scheme, of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, organized an Awareness Programme on, “Corona Virus” on 12.03.2020. NSS Programme Officer Mr.V.Pratheepkumar, created awareness about Corona Virus among the college students. Senior NSS Volunteers Mr.Selvakumar and Mr.Nishanth, coordinated the programme.
- National Service Scheme, of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, organized an Awareness Programme on, “Corona Virus” on 11.03.2020. NSS Programme Officers Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan and Mr.V.Pratheepkumar, created awareness about Corona Virus among the college students. Mr.VR.Nagarajan, Asst.Professor, Dept. of CA& IT, felicitated the gathering. Ms.Mithra, NSS Volunteer, demonstrated the different ways of Hand Washing. Finally, the NSS Volunteers took Oath to eradicate the Corona Virus by adopting good personal health and hygiene.
- The Department of Social Work in association with National Service Scheme, of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, organized an Awareness Programme on, “Corona Virus” on 10.03.2020. Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan, NSS Programme Officer cum Asst.Professor, Department of Social Work, acted as a Resource Person and delivered an Awareness Talk on, “Corona Virus” to the college students.
- The National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, organized the Valedictory Function of NSS Special Camp 2019-2020 on, “The Role of Youth in the Global Goals” on 09.03.2020, Monday at C.G.Pudur. Dr.I. Maria Yesuraja, Professor and Head, Department of Social Work, Sree Narayana Guru College, was invited as a Chief Guest and delivered a special talk on, “The Role of Youth in Global Goals”. Mr.Pratheepkumar, NSS Programme Officer, introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering. Ms.S.Dhivya, NSS Volunteer, welcomed the gathering. Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan, NSS Programme Officer, presented the Camp Report to the gathering. Mr.B.Rameshkumar, NSS Programme Officer, proposed a vote of thanks. The NSS Volunteers shared their experiences and gave feedback about the Seven Days NSS Special Camp.
- The NSS Volunteers of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, participated in the Mass Cleaning Campaign from Navakkarai to Walayar on 07.03.2020, Saturday during the NSS Special Camp organized by the Namma Navakkarai, Coimbatore.
- The Management, Principal, Staff and Students Congratulate the NSS Volunteers (Ms.Mithravindha, II B.Sc. Psychology and Mr.Ajeesh of III B.Sc. Microbiology) of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore who attended the University Level National Integration Camp Selection on 20.02.2020 at Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore and got selected for the Camp. Mr.V.Pratheepkumar, NSS PO, Coordinated the students.
- The National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore and MEI Arakkattalai in association with the Eye Foundation, Coimbatore, organized a Mega General Medical Camp at our Adopted Village, C.G.Pudur on 15.02.2020, Saturday. Mr.B.Rameshkumar, NSS Programme Officer, Coordinated the Camp.

- Hearty Congratulations to the NSS Volunteers ( Mr.T.Selvakumar and Ashar Henson S) of Sree Narayana Guru College, Coimbatore, who participated in the National Youth Festival 2020 from 17th to 20th January, organized by National Institute of Culture and Education in collaboration with Sri Jegannath Veda Karmakanda, Mahavidyalaya, Puri, Odisha.
- National Service Scheme of Sree Narayana Guru College organized NSS Day Celebration on 24.09.2019, Tuesday, at Sree Narayana Guru College. Mr. Kathirvelkumaran L, NSS Programme Officer, Rathinam College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest and delivered a Lecture on “Responsibilities of NSS Volunteers in Modern Society”.
- Organized Interdepartmental Competitions and Oath Taking Ceremony in connection with World Population Day on 11-07-19. The NSS Volunteers took Oath to raise the awareness among people about global population issues.
- Observed the International Yoga Day for the School Students at Government Higher Secondary School, K.G.Chavadi, Coimbatore on 21.06.2019. The NSS Volunteers gave awareness on the “Importance of Yoga” and demonstrated a few types of Asanas for the School Students. More than 100 students actively participated in the programme.
- NSS organized a Signature Campaign on World Day against Child Labour and awareness on “CHILD LABOUR IS NOT FAIR – SHOW A CHILD LOVE AND CARE, I PLEDGE THAT I WILL PREVENT CHILD LABOUR” on 11.06.2019 at 10.00 AM.

The Resource Person gave various tips to manage from the Natural Disasters. NSS Programme Officer, Mr.A.Bellaro John Regan, welcomed the gathering. Asst. Professors of Social Work, Ms. Nikhitha C.S. and Ms. Sukanya K.K. participated in the programme. More than 40 staff participated and got benefited by this programme.

- In association with Shanthi Social Services Blood Bank, Coimbatore, the National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross and Human Rights Cell of Sree Narayana Guru College, jointly organized “BLOOD DONATION CAMP” on 07.09.2018, Friday.Dr. T.R.Krishnan, Chairman i/c, SNGET, inaugurated the Blood Donation Camp. Dr.M.Ilangovan, Principal i/c, motivated and encouraged the students to donate blood. Mr. M. Suresh Babu, Public Relation Officer, Shanthi Social Services Blood Bank, Coimbatore, coordinated the medical team. NSS Programme Officers Mr. A.Bellaro John Regan, Mr. B. - Observed the International Day against the Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26.06.2018. The NSS Volunteers took an Oath on the theme, “SAY NO TO DRUGS & SAY YES TO LIFE”.

- Guest Lecture on “Application of Yoga for Modern Life” 21.06.2018, 11 AM, Conference Hall. Resource Person: Dr. Jincy Vibhas, Asst.Professor, Department of Pathology, JSS Institute of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Coimbatore.
- Conducted Awareness Rally on World Environment Day on 05-06-2018. On this occasion, Pledge taking ceremony was organized.
Activities (2017-2018)
- Observed National Voters Day on 27.01.2018. On this occasion, Pledge taking ceremony was organized by NSS units.
- Organized an awareness programme on “Adult Health” for girls students on 25.01.2018.
- National Service Scheme in association with Government Hospital, Coimbatore conducted a Blood Donation Camp on 18/01/2018 at 10.00 AM. Dr.K.V.Surendran, Principal inaugurated the camp. Around 70 students donated their blood in the programme for the welfare of the society.
- The world Environment day was organized on June 5th 2017 in which Rally was organized with 100 students in the chavadi village in order to clean and protect the environment.
- Blood donation camp in association with Shanthi Social Services, Coimbatore was organised on 14.06.2017. Around seventy staff and students donated their blood for the welfare of society.
National Service Scheme – Blood Donation Camp - International Yoga Day in association with Department of Physical Education was organised on 21.06.2017 in Vivekananda Hall. Around 250 students participated and knew about the importance of Yoga practices.
- An awareness programme on “unauthorized chit funds” was organised on 23.06.2017 in Vivekananda Hall. Around 250 students got benefited through this programme.
Activities(2016-17)- NSS in association with Ahalia Foundation organized an Eye camp for the final year students on 15.07.2016. A total of 500 students were benefited from the programme.
- On 01.09.2016, NSS & YRC jointly organised an awareness camp on “Stem Cell testing”for the students.
- The premises of Govt. Panchayath Middle School, Thirumalayampalayam were cleaned and white washed by our NSS Volunteers on 07.10.2016.
- On 30.11.2016 NSS in association with Vasan Eye Care Hospital organized an Eye camp for first year students in which Dr. K.V.Surendran, Principal presided over the function. A total of 400 students got benefited.
- On 01.12.2016, Signature campaign was organized for “AIDS Awareness Programme” in which Mr. T.S. Harish Kumar,Secretary, SNGET presided over the programme. A total of 100 staff and students participated.
- Alumni of SNGC along with NSS volunteers organized three day camp at Rangasamuthuram, Ettimadai Village, Coimbatore on 28.12.2016.
- National Voter’s Day was observed in our college on 25.01.2017. Around 200 students participated and took a pledge for casting their vote in the elections conducted by ECI, Govt. of India.
- On 07.02.2017 “Unified Payment Interface Programme” was organized to give awareness for the “Go Cashless”. Dr. K.V Surendran, Principal, presided over the function in which Mr. S. Rajkumar, Dy. General Manager (Commercial), National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd, Mr. Vikram Singh Jongval, DeputyManager (Commercial), National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd, Ms. Uma Kannan, Assistant Manager, (Commercial), National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd., delivered special address. More than 100 students participated and knew the procedures for transferring money through UPI .
